MARION, Ind. – Macomb Track & Field opened their outdoor season at the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Classic Friday (March 20) in Marion, Ind. The Monarchs had runners compete in the men's and women's 5K races to open the outdoor slate with mid-distance and field events to be added as early as the next event.

On the women's side, Emma Dell led the way with a time of 20:22 and was followed closely by Erin Rowan who crossed the line at 20:41. Erin Leverenz wrapped up the Monarchs day in the women's 5K with a time of 25:05. 

Michael Nivala Jr., a national qualifier in the indoor 5K, led the men's team as he crossed the line in seventh place with a time of 15:46. 

Jack DeWaele ran a 17:05 and Brandon Penberthy checked in at 17:29 to close out the Blue & White's time in Indiana. 

The Monarchs return to action Saturday (April 4) at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational hosted by Oakland University. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. in Rochester.
