ROCHESTER, Mich. – Three PRs were set, along with a pair of season-best efforts, as Macomb Track & Field posted a successful evening at Oakland University's Elaine Leigh Invitational on Friday (April 17). The Monarchs will return to Rochester on Saturday for day two of the Elaine Leigh Invitational.
Emma Dell got the Monarchs' evening started with an impressive performance in the 1500m. Dell crossed the finish line at 5:02.49, eclipsing her previous best time in the event by eight seconds to secure a PR. Dell's time, good for the top spot of any NJCAA runner in the field, was also seven seconds off a qualifying time for nationals.
In the men's 1500m,
Brandon Penberthy cruised his way to a 4:22.29 to set a new PR.
Erin Rowan had a career evening in the 5000m, cruising to a time of 19:46 to set a new PR. Rowan shattered her previous best time of 19:57 set last year at Oakland University.
Erin Leverenz also competed in the 5000m and posted a time of 23:46.
In the final event of the night one,
Michael Nivala Jr. and
Jack DeWaele ran the 5000m and both came away with outdoor season best times. Nivala finished 13
th in a loaded three-heat field with a time of 15:18 while DeWaele checked in at 16:37.
