BY THE NUMBERS: 55
Last weekend's trip up north ended on a high note as the Monarchs erupted for a
55 point victory (86-31) over North Central Michigan College on Saturday. The decisive win marked the largest margin of victory for the Monarchs since the 2022-23 opener when the Blue & White topped Community Christian by 63 points (96-33 final).
BY THE NUMBERS: 86
The Monarchs earned the 55 point victory over North Central Michigan thanks in part to a red-hot offensive effort that resulted in
86 points on 52.2% shooting overall (43.5% 3PM). The
86 points tallied was the most by the Monarchs since Nov. 29, 2022, when the Blue & White posted an equal
86 points in an
86-42 road win at Madonna JV.
WEEKEND REWIND
Prior to the 86-31 win to end the weekend trip at North Central Michigan, the Monarchs took on their second ranked opponent of the season (first ranked NJCAA DII opponent) when they visited No. 16 Mid Michigan College Friday night. The Monarchs battled tough throughout but fell to the 16th ranked Lakers by an 84-66 final score.
SCORING LEADERS
The duo of
Marissa Thomas and
Tamia Tounsel continue to lead the scoring column for a balanced Monarchs team that features five players averaging six or more points per game (PPG). Tounsel paces the Monarchs at 14.9 PPG and is followed in double digits by Thomas at 13.6 PPG. After a big week,
Sydney Garon checks in at 7.9 PPG, while
Enddiea Reese and
Kamryn Richards average 7.7 and 6.1 PPG, respectively.
A LOOK AT: GLEN OAKS
The Glen Oaks Vikings have started the season strong at 7-3 behind consistent outside shooting and unselfish play. Through 10 games, the Vikings average a MCCAA-best 7.8 3-pointers per game and dish out an association-leading 17.3 assists per game. Elaina Wilson leads the Vikings with 13.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
SERIES HISTORY VS GLEN OAKS
The Monarchs and Vikings have met five times since the 2012-13 season with the Blue & White emerging victorious in all five contests. After a brief hiatus, the teams have met in each of the last two seasons with Macomb winning each battle by double digits.
A LOOK AT: KVCC
Coming off a trip to the Great Lakes District Tournament a season ago, the Kalamazoo Valley Cougars enter the week with a 3-4 record and will take on Jackson Wednesday prior to hosting the Monarchs. Gone is 2022-23 All-American Abigail Long, but the Cougars have plenty of talent, including leading scorer Brynne Johnson (15.3 PPG).
SERIES HISTORY VS KVCC
The Monarchs and KVCC Cougars have only met four times in recent history and have split the meetings, 2-2, dating back to the 2014-15 season. Last year, the Cougars came to Warren and picked up a 63-56 victory on Dec. 17. Prior to that, the Monarchs visited Kalamazoo on Nov. 23, 2021 and won 83-56. The teams split the first two meetings, both coming in the MCCAA Championship Game (2015 and 2017).
OTHER STAT LEADERS
Tamia Tounsel crashes the glass to the tune of a team-best 9.6 rebounds per game (RPG), while
Marissa Thomas (5.9 RPG) and
Enddiea Reese (5.0 RPG) follow. Defensively, five Monarchs have 10 or more steals on the season:
Marissa Thomas (17),
Tamia Tounsel (14),
Hannah Roberts (12),
Enddiea Reese (10) and
Kamryn Richards (10).
GARON GOES OFF
How about the weekend by freshman wing
Sydney Garon! Garon poured in five 3-pointers in back-to-back games on her way to posting a career-high 17 points against Mid Michigan and tallying 15 points in the road victory at North Central Michigan College.
