BY THE NUMBERS: 6
Welcome home, Monarchs! Macomb Women's Basketball returns to the Sports & Expo Center Saturday afternoon after a
six (6) week,
six (6) game road swing. The Monarchs went an even 3-3 during their time on the road to pull their overall record to
6-3 entering Saturday's non-conference tilt with Alma JV. Tip-off for Saturday's contest is slated for 1 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS: 40
The Monarchs closed out their lengthy road swing on a high note by winning their last three games in convincing fashion, topping North Central Michigan by an 86-31 final before defeating Glen Oaks, 76-33, and KVCC, 71-48. The Monarchs outscored the opposition by an average of
40 points per game during the three-game winning streak.
ROAD TRIP REWIND
After facing two ranked opponents and starting the road trip 0-3, the Monarchs regrouped and finished their time on the road with a three-game winning streak to move to 6-3 on the season. The Monarchs ended the road trip strong by out-rebounding all three opponents and forcing a grand total of 87 turnovers during the winning streak.
LEADING THE WAY
The duo of
Marissa Thomas and
Tamia Tounsel continue to lead the scoring column for a balanced Monarchs team that features five players averaging six or more points per game (PPG). Tounsel paces the Monarchs at 13.9 PPG and is followed in double digits by Thomas at 13.3 PPG.
Sydney Garon checks in at 8.9 PPG, while
Kamryn Richards and
Enddiea Reese average 7.8 and 6.1 PPG, respectively.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
One of several bright spots this season for the Monarchs has been the play of sophomore forward and former Dakota High School standout,
Tamia Tounsel. Through nine games, Tounsel has amassed four double-doubles on her way to nearly averaging a double-double on the season at 13.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
A LOOK AT: ALMA JV
While we don't know much in the way of stats of the Alma JV team, we do know they come in well-coached by current Scots assistant and former Macomb Men's Basketball standout, Antonio Capaldi. The Scots, 2-5 overall, defeated Delta earlier in the season, 69-63.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Are we in for another overtime thriller?! Last season, the Monarchs emerged victorious over the Scots in three overtimes, 77-71, thanks to a late-game, personal 4-0 run by
Tamia Tounsel and two clutch free throws by
Kamryn Richards. Former Monarch and current Cleary guard,
Rylee Thomas, led all scorers with 19 points.
A LOOK AHEAD
After Saturday's long-awaited return to the Sports & Expo Center, the Monarchs will hit the road once again, but this time they will play a pair of games at nearby SC4 on Jan. 5 & 6 as part of the SC4 Classic. The first two games on the 2024 calendar will mark the last two non-conference games of the season as the Blue & White will take on Muskegon on Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. and then square off once again with KVCC on Jan. 6 at 11 a.m.
OTHER STAT LEADERS
Tamia Tounsel hauls in a team-best 9.2 rebounds per game (RPG), while three others follow with five or more per contest.
Marissa Thomas is next at 5.3 RPG and
Danielle Billinger and
Hannah Roberts check in at 5.2 and 5.1 RPG, respectively. Thomas dishes out a team-high 4.3 assists per game and
