Macomb Women's Basketball went 2-0 last week, topping Lake Michigan in non-conference action by an 84-62 final on Wednesday (Jan. 17) before resuming league play with a 59-54 comeback victory over Mott. The pair of wins lifted the Monarchs' home record to
6-0 on the season ahead of Wednesday's contest with SC4 (5:30 p.m.).
BY THE NUMBERS: 22
The Monarchs put their resiliency on display once again in a thrilling 59-54 comeback win over Mott on Saturday (Jan. 20) at the Sports & Expo Center. Trailing by as many as 14 points early, the Monarchs chipped away the entire game before taking over late and outscoring the Bears
22-10 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
THE HOMESTAND CONTINUES
The homestand continues with a pair of MCCAA Eastern Conference contests inside the Sports & Expo Center this week! On Wednesday (Jan. 24), the Monarchs will host St. Clair County Community College (SC4) at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Monarchs welcome the Oakland Community College Raiders to Warren for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
ATOP THE SCORING COLUMN
The sophomore duo of
Marissa Thomas and
Tamia Tounsel continue to lead the scoring column for a balanced Monarchs team that features four players averaging eight or more points per game (PPG). Tounsel paces the Monarchs at 14.7 PPG and is followed in double digits by Thomas who checks in at 13.9 PPG. Fellow sophomore
Kamryn Richards nets 8.8 PPG while freshman wing
Sydney Garon averages 8.5 PPG.
CAREER NIGHT FOR THOMAS
Marissa Thomas helped the Monarchs go 2-0 at home last week behind a pair of stellar performances, including a career night in the 84-62 win over Lake Michigan on Wednesday. The sophomore guard exploded for a career-high 27 points and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to help lift the Monarchs to the 22-point win.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE X 2
Hannah Roberts enjoyed a great week on the home hardwood with double-doubles in the wins over Lake Michigan and Mott. Roberts posted 10 points and 11 rebounds in the Lake Michigan win and followed that with a 12-point, 10-rebound stat line in the Mott victory.
A LOOK AT: SC4
The SC4 Skippers enter the week with a 15-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the MCCAA East. The stellar record has led the Skippers to receiving votes in the most recent NJCAA Division II Rankings. Arlonna Twitty leads a talented Skippers team at 14.7 PPG and is joined in double figures by Karmyn Lowry (12.2 PPG) and Bailey Gormley (11.8 PPG).
A LOOK AT: OCC
The Oakland Community College (OCC) Raiders sit at 7-8 overall and enter the week with an 0-2 mark in league play. The Raiders average just north of 63 points per game and are led offensively by Lizzie Liedel who nets 16.2 PPG. Liedel is followed in double digits by Mackenzie Stein (10.1 PPG). Teraja Williams, sister of Macomb Men's Basketball sophomore forward, Tymias Williams, averages 7.1 PPG.
STAT LEADERS
Tamia Tounsel leads the scoring and rebounding departments at 14.7 points per game and 9.9 rebounds per contest, while
Marissa Thomas averages a team-leading 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Sydney Garon has connected on a team-high 36 3-pointers through 15 games and
Hannah Roberts has recorded a team-best 14 blocks.
