The double-double spree continued last week for
Tamia Tounsel as the sophomore forward posted another balanced week on the hardwood. Tounsel narrowly missed out on a double-double Wednesday with nine points and 14 rebounds and closed out the week recording double-double No.
11 on the season with 12 points and 14 boards against Jackson.
BY THE NUMBERS: 3
Last week started off strong for the Monarchs as the Blue & White traveled to Detroit on Wednesday and picked up a 53-38 victory over the Wayne County Wildcats. The Monarchs were stingy defensively throughout and held the Wildcats to 38 points on 29.6% shooting. The Monarchs are
3-0 this season when holding the opposition under 40 points.
THE WEEK AHEAD
The second half of MCCAA Eastern Conference action gets underway Wednesday (Feb. 7) when the Monarchs host Schoolcraft College at 5:30 p.m. From there, the Monarchs will take a brief break from league play on Saturday when they head to Benton Harbor for a 1 p.m. non-conference tilt against the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
Marissa Thomas leads a balanced Monarch scoring attack with an average of 14.9 points per game (PPG) and is immediately followed by
Tamia Tounsel who checks in at 14.6 PPG.
Kamryn Richards nets 8.5 per contest, while
Sydney Garon and
Enddiea Reese average 7.9 and 6.6 PPG, respectively. As a team, the Monarchs average 64.5 PPG and have held the opposition to 58.8 PPG through 19 games this season.
MIDWAY POINT
The midway point of the MCCAA East slate is here and the Monarchs are in the hunt with an even 3-3 record in league action. The .500 conference record has the Monarchs positioned two games back of a three-team tie for first place as SC4, Jackson and Schoolcraft are all 5-1 in league play. The Monarchs currently hold a one-game lead over OCC (2-4).
SOPHOMORE DAY IS FEBRUARY 24
Women's Basketball will host Sophomore Day on February 24 at 1 p.m. when the Monarchs host Wayne County Community College. Come early as Macomb Athletics honors the careers of the team's sophomores with a special pregame ceremony.
A LOOK AT: SCHOOLCRAFT
The Schoolcraft College Ocelots will head to Warren on Wednesday in a three-way tie for first place in the MCCAA East at 5-1 in league play (14-4 overall). The Ocelots went 1-1 last week, topping Jackson on the road before dropping an away contest to SC4. The Ocelots, one of the top defensive teams in the MCCAA, hold opponents to 51.2 PPG.
A LOOK AT: LAKE MICHIGAN
The Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College enter the week at 4-15 overall and 2-4 in MCCAA Western Conference action. The Monarchs and Red Hawks met previously this season, an 84-62 home victory for Macomb back on Jan. 17. The Red Hawks shot 50.0% in the first meeting but committed 36 turnovers as the Monarch defense earned a stunning 53-9 points off turnovers advantage in the contest.

Tamia Tounsel leads the team on the glass at 10.5 rebounds per game (fourth in the MCCAA) while
Marissa Thomas averages a team-leading 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Sydney Garon has connected on a team-high 43 3-pointers while
Kamryn Richards has drained 36 triples. Richards is also second on the team in assists with 69.
