Preview: Women’s Basketball Takes on Crusaders Thursday

The Monarchs will look to improve to 3-1 on the season when they play the Madonna University Reserves on Thursday.

WARREN, Mich. – The Macomb Women's Basketball team will look to continue their winning ways this week as they travel to Livonia to take on the Madonna University reserves on Thursday (Nov. 20). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Madonna's Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena. 
 
The Monarchs are 2-1 overall this season, registering victories over Muskegon Community College and Edison State Community College. The team's only loss on the young season came in a neutral-site setting against Delta College. 
 
SCOUTING MADONNA: The Crusaders' JV squad has faced off against three NJCAA Region XII members to-date this season. In those contests, the Crusaders have posted a 1-2 record with losses against Cuyahoga Community College and Delta College and a 60-52 victory over Henry Ford College.
 
THE SERIES: Macomb has won three in a row against the Crusaders, including an 89-63 victory last season. The Monarchs had four players reach double figures last year, led by Sydney Garon with 24 points. Asiyah Jihad tallied 13 points, while Vanessa Galovich and Nave'yah Knott chipped in 10 points each. 
 
A LOOK AT MACOMB: The Monarchs most recently earned a 75-63 road victory over Edison State on Nov. 12 behind a 26-point, eight-rebound performance by Jihad. Janiya McWilliams registered 13 points and six rebounds, while MyKenzi Harris had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Galovich posted 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.
 
As a team, the Monarchs have outscored opponents 209-199 in three games this season. Jihad is averaging a double-double with 20.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. A'Liyah Forris is second on the team in scoring with 12.0 points per contest. 

UP NEXT: Following their trip to Livonia, the Monarchs will have just over a week off before playing a pair of games over Thanksgiving weekend at Montcalm Community College. The Monarchs will take on Cuyahoga Community College at 1 p.m. on Nov. 29 and will wrap up their weekend on the west side with a 5 p.m. tilt opposite Grand Rapids Community College on Nov. 30.
