Preview: Monarchs Prepare for Challenging Week Ahead Against Two Conference Champions From a Season Ago

The week begins on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at No. 10 Lansing Community College and concludes with a 1 p.m. contest at Mid Michigan College (Morey Courts) on Saturday.

WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball hits the road for a pair of tough challenges this week when they travel to No. 10 Lansing Community College for a date with the Stars on Wednesday (Dec. 3) and later visit Mid Michigan College on Saturday.
 
Wednesday's game from Lansing's Gannon Gymnasium will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's contest will start at 1 p.m. from the Morey Courts Recreation Center in Mount Pleasant. 
 
SCOUTING LANSING: Lansing, the nation's 10th ranked team and defending MCCAA Western Conference Champions, is off to a strong 6-1 start this season. The Stars most recently defeated Mid Michigan College last week by an 86-62 final. Armonie Smith leads the team on the offensive end with 15.0 points per game. Another player to watch is Ashlynn Putman, who stuffs the stat sheet to the tune of 13.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Georgia Kuyers leads the squad on the glass with 7.3 rebounds per contest. 
 
As a team, the Stars are averaging 90.1 points per game while holding their opponents to a stingy 65.9 average. 
 
The Stars are led by head coach Megan Hudson. 
 
SCOUTING MID MICHIGAN: After winning their third straight MCCAA Northern Conference title last year, the Lakers are 2-2 thus far on the young 2025-26 season. The Lakers have victories over Black Hawk College and Bryant and Stratton Wisconsin, while their losses have come to a pair of top 10 teams in No. 9 Schoolcraft College and No. 10 Lansing. 
 
Freshman Abigail Lautzenheiser leads the Lakers offensively with 13.3 points per game, while Madison Smith and Alexus Dunn average 12.3 points each. Lautzenheiser also leads the team on the boards with 9.5 rebounds per contest. Smith boasts a team-high 2.3 blocks per game. 
 
The Lakers are led by first year head coach Tanner Smith, who previously served as an assistant coach with the program before being promoted to the head coaching role prior to this season. 
 
A LOOK AT MACOMB: The Monarchs enter the week riding a four-game winning streak after a pair of victories at the Montcalm Community College Shootout over the weekend. The Monarchs took down previously unbeaten Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday, 68-63, before earning a 55-45 wire-to-wire victory over Grand Rapids Community College on Sunday.
 
Asiyah Jihad, the reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, paces the Monarchs' scoring efforts at 18.2 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 8.7 per contest. MyKenzi Harris checks in with a team-high 27 steals while averaging 13.7 points per game and A'Liyah Forris has posted 11.8 points per contest. 
 
The Monarchs have been a strong team defensively, registering 83 steals and forcing 146 turnovers while holding the opposition to 59.7 points per game.
 
LAST YEAR: The Monarchs met with both programs last season with Mid Michigan earning a 72-46 road victory on Dec. 6, 2024. Less than a week later, Lansing defeated the Monarchs, 53-44, on Dec. 11, 2024, at the Sport & Expo Center.

UP NEXT: Following this week's slate of games, the Monarchs will return to action Dec. 12 with a trip to Dowagiac to take on the Roadrunners of Southwestern Michigan College. Tip-off for that contest is set for 5:30 p.m. from Southwestern Michigan's 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.
