BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Macomb Women's Cross Country hit the course for the second time this season on Saturday (Sept. 6) at Ferris State University's Ray Helsing Invitational. The Monarchs, competing without last week's race winner
Grace Wessel, who was under load management, finished third of three teams in a small but loaded field.
Emma Dell set the tone early for the Monarchs, setting a new PR in the 5K after crossing the finish line at 20:04. The new PR was nine seconds better than Dell's previous best and resulted in a top 10 finish as the sophomore checked in ninth overall.
Erin Rowan was next in 16
th place, 12
th among attached runners, with a time of 21:07. Saturday's effort saw Rowan improve upon her season-opener a week ago.
Amber Watta was the first of two freshmen to cross the finish line for the Monarchs at 21:34 to check in 19
th overall (14
th attached) and
Erin Leverenz finished 29
th (18
th attached) at 24:50.
Vanessa Sayers was 32
nd (19
th attached) with a time of 28:57.
Watta joined Dell and Rowan by improving week-to-week from the Aug. 29 season-opening race.
The Monarchs are back in action Sept. 19 with an added race at Olivet Nazarene University's Midwest Classic. The women's 6K event is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. CT start from Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill.
