WARREN, Mich. – Following a three-game homestand, Macomb Women's Basketball hits the road this week for the beginning portion of a three-game road swing. The Monarchs will head to Flint on Wednesday (Feb. 11) to take on Mott Community College at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Port Huron on Saturday (Feb. 14) to battle St. Clair County Community College at 1 p.m.
Macomb is 17-7 overall and 6-3 in league play, sitting in a tie for third place with Jackson College.
A LOOK AT MOTT: Mott enters this week 9-13 overall and 3-6 in MCCAA East action under the direction of first-year head coach Ryan Trevithick. The Bears are coming off a hard-fought 67-52 setback to No. 2 Schoolcraft on Saturday in Livonia and have earned league wins against Henry Ford College, Oakland Community College and most recently Wayne County Community College District.
Ella Prevost leads the team in scoring with 11 points per game while Kyndall Dotson isn't far behind with 10.8 points per contest. Isabelle Bernthal has pulled down a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game and Ali Anderson has grabbed 5.8 boards per night.
A LOOK AT SC4: The Skippers are 17-7 overall and 8-1 in league play with their only conference loss coming to unbeaten Schoolcraft in the final seconds. On Saturday, the Skippers earned an 87-68 road victory over Oakland Community College to move another step toward securing a top two spot in the league.
As a team, the Skippers average 73.9 points per game and are led by Iliana Williams (15.5 PPG). Myana Cooksey (14.7 PPG) and Kyrieona Carter (13.9 PPG) follow in double figures scoring while Carter also grabs 14.1 rebounds per night, which ranks first in both the MCCAA and NJCAA Region 12 and second in NJCAA Division II.
Mike Groulx is in his third season after returning to the Skippers sideline.
A LOOK AT MACOMB: A'Liyah Forris, the current MCCAA Eastern Conference Co-Player of the Week, scored a career-high 27 points as the Monarchs rolled to a 98-48 victory over Henry Ford College last Saturday at the Matthaei Center in Detroit. She added three assists and three steals in 31 minutes of action and was one of four starters to reach double figures in scoring in the 50-point win.
MyKenzi Harris tallied 19 points and seven rebounds while
Hannah Tamou added 13 points and seven boards.
Janiya McWilliams had a balanced stat line with 10 points, a team-high eight assists and seven rebounds.
The key contributions continued down the roster as
Ruby Sandison added eight points and a team-best eight boards,
Ava Kilgore registered eight points and four rebounds while
Jamiya Rogers chipped in seven points.
Maggie Stadler posted six points, five assists and four rebounds to round out a packed box score for
Kirk Carolan and the Monarchs.
The Monarchs dominated the game from the opening tip, leading 29-11 after one quarter and 45-27 at the half. They kept their foot on the gas in the second half as they outscored the Hawks 53-21 in the final 20 minutes en route to the 50-point margin of victory.
Forris continues to lead the team offensively with 14.5 points per night while Harris has netted 13.2 points per contest. McWilliams has pulled down 7.2 rebounds while averaging 10.8 points per game.
As a team, Macomb is averaging 71 points per game, which ranks ninth in the MCCAA.
EARLIER THIS SEASON: Macomb opened their conference home slate at their temporary home on the campus of Wayne State University with an 80-69 win over Mott on Jan. 17. The Monarchs have won 13 in a row over the Bears in the series, with Mott's last win coming in February 2019.
The Monarchs and Skippers met the following Wednesday (Jan. 21) in Detroit, with SC4 earning an 86-67 victory.
