WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Community College women's volleyball head coach
Lauren "Doogie" Rishell is stepping down to spend more time with her growing family, athletic director
Bryan Rizzo announced Friday (Feb. 6).
"After seven incredible seasons as head volleyball coach at Macomb, I've made the decision to step down to focus on our growing family," said Doogie. "My husband and I recently welcomed our first baby, and I want to be fully present for this new chapter at home."
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every student-athlete who wore the Monarch jersey, as well as every assistant coach, trainer and staff member who poured their time and energy into this program. Collectively, you made the past seven years some of the most rewarding of my life. To all of our players throughout the years, I'm so proud of the young women you became—on the court and off—and I'll be cheering for you, always. I wish the program continued success and the very best to the next coach. Go Monarchs, forever!"
Doogie, the 10
th head coach in program history, steps away from coaching the Monarchs after seven successful seasons that featured the 82 wins overall and 43 victories in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The 82 career wins ranks fourth in program history while the 43 victories in league play ranks third in program history.
A consistent product, Doogie's teams qualified for the postseason in six out of her seven seasons at the helm, including a 2025 season that culminated with a pair of victories at the Great Lakes District B Championship. The 2025 edition of Macomb Volleyball posted 17 wins—the most in a season under Doogie's guidance—and had five student-athletes earn all-conference honors. In all, Doogie coached over 30 all-conference selections at the helm of the Monarchs.
For her efforts, Doogie was named MCCAA East Co-Coach of the Year in 2021.
Above all the wins and accolades, the former standout player at Oakland University and heralded club coach at the national level was a valued leader and mentor to the scores of student-athletes in her program.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Doogie over the past seven years," remarked Rizzo. "She brought a deep commitment to the student-athlete and worked hard to build a successful program that helped young people both on-and-off the court. Additionally, she was always great to work with and put the success of the team above her personal goals. Doogie is a true professional and a great person in every way. I am so happy she is heading to the next chapter of her life as a mom with the same passion she has for volleyball. She will be great!"
A search for the program's 11
th head coach is underway.
