BY THE NUMBERS: 4
What an ending to the spring trip! After starting the trip 2-6 with three losses against top NJCAA D1 competition, the Monarchs came alive to win
four (4) straight to even their record at 6-6 on the season. The Monarchs capped off the winning streak with a
four (4) run bottom of the seventh to beat a quality Bryant & Stratton WI team in walk-off fashion!
BY THE NUMBERS: 20
While deep fences and wind kept the Monarchs from going yard on a few occasions, the Blue & White were still able to amass an impressive
20 extra-base hits throughout their 12-game stay in Florida! The tandem of
Rylee Thomas and
Elizabeth Townsend led the charge on their way to combining for 12 of the team's
20 extra-base hits.
CONFERENCE PLAY AHEAD
The Monarchs get MCCAA Eastern Conference play underway in the week ahead with three league doubleheaders. On Tuesday (March 21), the Monarchs visit defending champion OCC for a 3 p.m. first pitch. The home opener is Friday when Schoolcraft visits Warren to play two beginning at 3 p.m. The week ends in Flint against Mott Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
BIZZY GO... .500!
Now that's how you start a season!
Elizabeth Townsend was a key piece to the team's success in Florida as the sophomore first baseman recorded a team-best .500 average and amassed a team-leading 1.232 OPS (on-base plus slugging) and .585 OBP (on-base percentage). Townsend also led the team in doubles with five through 11 games played (11 starts) in Florida.
THOMAS THE TRIPLE MACHINE!
Like Townsend, sophomore shortstop
Rylee Thomas also enjoyed a highly-successful Florida trip. The two-sport standout legged out an impressive four triples and added three doubles to post a team-high .714 slugging percentage. In all, Thomas hit .400 (1.176 OPS) and also racked up a stellar .462 OBP in 11 games played (11 starts).
MONARCHS PERFECT WHEN...
The Monarchs were a perfect 6-0 when holding the opposition to four or less runs in Florirda last week and were also perfect in games where they led in late inning situations (3-0 when leading after four, 3-0 when leading after five and 4-0 when holding the lead through six).
STRONG PERFORMANCES
Danielle Erickson hit .351 with a .415 OBP and a team-best nine runs scored, while newcomer
Savanna Clark followed closely behind with a .344 average, seven runs scored and a team-high five steals.
Brynn Beyer and
Carleigh Bilpo combined for five doubles to round out a few leaders offensively, while
Allison Vogt debuted nicely in the circle with 28 strikeouts and a 4:1 K/BB ratio.
ON THE ROAD TWICE
The Monarchs will open the 32-game MCCAA East slate on the road for two out of the first three doubleheaders. The Monarchs visit OCC's Highland Lakes Campus Tuesday and wrap up the week at Flint's Kearsley Park against Mott on Saturday. OCC enters the week with a 3-9 record after playing top competition in Florida and Mott is 2-9 after just finishing up their spring trip.
