BY THE NUMBERS: 15
Next week, the Monarchs begin MCCAA Eastern Conference play with a road doubleheader at Schoolcraft (played at Ward Church) on Tuesday before opening up at home on Friday against OCC and hosting Henry Ford on Saturday. In all, the Monarchs will play
15 conference doubleheaders, three against each league counterpart.
BY THE NUMBERS: 18
The Monarchs went 4-6 in Florida thanks in large part to
18 extra-base hits across their 10 games played. The team hit nine doubles and nine triples, taking advantage of the extra outfield space at the Space Coast Games.
Ally Prasnjak (2B, 4 3B) led the Monarchs with five extra-base hits while
Sydney Urban followed with four (2B, 3 3B).
CLARK'S NICE START
Sophomore outfielder
Savanna Clark shot out to a strong start in 2024 with a successful spring trip. Clark kicked off her second season in a Macomb uniform with a .500 batting average after going 12-for-24 in nine games played in Florida. The speedster stole a team-best 10 bases in nine games while also driving in two runs and connecting on a pair of doubles (.583 slugging percentage).
LEADING THE WAY AT THE PLATE
Sophomore 1B/OF
Haley Mitchell also enjoyed a great start to her second collegiate season as the former Memphis standout hit a team-leading .529 (9-for-17) in the Sunshine State. Clark followed closely at .500, while
Carleigh Bilpo hit .429 with a double and a triple as part of a .629 slugging percentage and
Ally Prasnjak slugged a team-best .679 with six RBIs.
Sydney Urban drove in a team-high seven runs.
IN THE CIRCLE
Returning starter
Allison Vogt struck out 23 batters across 20 innings pitched and kept the earned runs at a minimum, while freshman
Grace Dzikowski posted a team-best two wins (2-1) through five appearances while punching out 20 batters in 21 innings of work.
Katelynn Fraser recorded nine strikeouts in Florida in 20 innings pitched.
ON THE RUN
The Monarchs racked up 25 stolen bases during their time at the Space Coast Games, a number that is only six shy of the team's total from a season ago (31 total stolen bases in 2023).
Savanna Clark led the way with 10 while
Ally Prasnjak followed with three and five other Monarchs swiped two bags each in a 25-for-31 effort overall.
A LOOK AT: SCHOOLCRAFT
League play begins Tuesday on the road as the Monarchs visit the Ocelots of Schoolcraft College for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Ward Church in Northville. The Ocelots are 6-4 overall at the time of this release and are led into action by first-year head coach Breanna Rice. The Ocelots are balanced offensively with nine players hitting .300 or better through 10 games this season.
A LOOK AT: OCC
Like the Monarchs, the new-look Raiders of Oakland Community College are faced with the task of replacing some of their best hitters in program history. The Raiders compiled a 1-8 record down south while playing a difficult schedule, but their lone win came in impressive fashion as the they topped Grand Rapids CC by an 18-2 final tally. The Raiders visit the Monarchs on Friday (March 22) for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
A LOOK AT: HENRY FORD
Another team with a new head coach this season, the Hawks of Henry Ford College enter the week with an overall record of 0-5. The Hawks are hitting .234 as a team and have two players (min. 10 ABs) hitting above .300 across their five games played. The Hawks are slated to visit Warren on Saturday (March 23) for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
NO LIVE STREAMS THIS WEEK
Due to being shorthanded with personnel at the Men's Basketball National Championship, we will not be streaming the first two conference home doubleheaders when OCC and Henry Ford visit next week. Come out to Warren to cheer the team on live as league play begins with two key MCCAA East matchups!
