BY THE NUMBERS: 15
A historic day in Warren! On Saturday (April 6), freshman right-handed pitcher
Grace Dzikowski tossed the
15th no-hitter in Macomb Softball history in an 8-0 six-inning win over Schoolcraft. Dzikowski's historic 'no-no' was one walk shy of a perfect game as the freshman went on to strike out five to record the program's first no-hitter since 2017.
BY THE NUMBERS: 11
The incredible freshman campaign for former Regina standout
Sydney Urban continued on Saturday with two more home runs. With the pair of fence-clearing blasts, Urban lifted her total to a team-leading six home runs on the season, one ahead of
Ally Prasnjak as the duo has combined for
11 of the team's 17 home runs.
AHEAD THIS WEEK
How about this weather?! The current forecast has Wednesday shaping up to be a beautiful day for softball as the Monarchs are set to (finally) welcome in the Hawks of Henry Ford College for a MCCAA East doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. From there, the Monarchs will look to traverse an iffy forecast for road doubleheaders in Flint (Friday at Mott) and in Taylor (Saturday at Henry Ford).
FOUR ABOVE .400
The offense has continued its strong pace and enters the week with balance as four Monarchs are hitting over .400, led by a team-best .469 average and .581 on-base percentage by
Carleigh Bilpo through 18 games played.
Ally Prasnjak is next at .448 with a team-leading .940 slugging percentage, while
Savanna Clark checks in at .435 to go along with 15 steals and
Katelyn Thomas boasts an even .400 average.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Congrats to sophomore infielder
Katelyn Thomas for earning MCCAA East Player of the Week honors! Over four games and 14 at-bats last week, Thomas hit .786, slugged 1.214 and had an on-base percentage of .786. In all, six of Thomas' 11 hits were doubles as the sophomore posted her best week in a Macomb uniform to earn his first weekly honor!
A MEMORABLE FIRST HOME RUN
Freshman outfielder
Zoe Hunt also had a week to remember, and more specifically had an at-bat to remember in the Monarchs' 8-0 victory over Schoolcraft. With the team leading 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Hunt hit her first collegiate home run (a two-run shot) to walk-off Schoolcraft and also secure
Grace Dzikowski's historic no-hitter!
A LOOK AT: HENRY FORD
The Hawks of Henry Ford College enter the week with a 1-9 mark in the MCCAA Eastern Conference and a 1-14 record overall. Despite the 1-14 overall record, the Hawks have played teams tough and have been close to earning several other wins on the season. The Hawks are hitting .272 as a team through 15 games and currently have a team ERA of 4.39 entering this week's action.
ANOTHER LOOK AT: MOTT
The first place Bears of Mott Community College enter this week's action with a 19-7 record overall and an 11-1 mark in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The Bears' lone loss in conference play came in Warren on March 29 as Macomb split the doubleheader with a 12-8 win in the nightcap. As a team, the Bears are hitting .364 and slugging .517 with a .431 on-base percentage thanks in large part to 18 home runs on the season.
A FEW MORE STANDOUTS
While four players boast a .400 or better average, five other Monarchs are hitting above .300 as returning outfielder
Haley Mitchell leads the cast at a .391 clip.
Zoe Hunt follows closely at .389 and
Brynn Beyer checks in with a .370 average.
Sydney Urban is hitting .344 to go along with a team-best 27 RBIs while
Chloe Cantin is hitting .323.
