4 seed in the six team bracket and Edison State is No. 5. The winner will play No. 1 Lansing on Thursday at 2 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS: 27
What a regular season for the Monarchs! Through 40 games, the Monarchs compiled a
27-13 record overall and a 23-7 mark in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The
27 wins are the most by the Monarchs in
Jim Beard's eight seasons at the helm (previous best was 25). The
27-13 record also ties for the best winning percentage since 2015.
MARYSVILLE, HERE WE COME!
This week's NJCAA Division II Great Lakes District A Tournament will be played in a familiar place—Marysville City Park. The double-elimination tournament kicks off Thursday with Macomb participating in the opening game at 12 p.m. Please note: the tournament will be held on three fields at Marysville City Park. The main field (SC4's Field) is Field #5. The Monarchs open on Field #4.
ON THE OFFENSIVE
We have a tie atop the team in batting average as
Savanna Clark and
Ally Prasnjak both check in hitting .443 on the season. Clark has swiped a team-high 32 bags, while Prasnjak has put together a campaign that features a .517 OBP, .901 SLG%, 12 home runs, 12 doubles, six triples and 44 RBIs.
Carleigh Bilpo (.409),
Haley Mitchell (.407) and
Brynn Beyer (.402) all follow above .400 while
Katelyn Thomas checks in at .381.
RED HOT
Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Allison Vogt continues to heat up and has been nothing short of red hot in the circle as of late for the Monarchs! The sophomore made her return a few weeks back and, since then, has rattled off nine straight wins over her last nine decisions to move to 12-5 on the year and push her ERA south of 3.00 at 2.99.
ONE GAME AT A TIME
While the path to winning a double-elimination tournament could take many twists and turns, the Monarchs will take their one-game-at-a-time approach into Thursday when they take on Edison State at 12 p.m. A date with top seed Lansing would be next with a win at 2 p.m. while Friday's action would rely on results across the tournament.
THE FIRST OPPONENT
Time to take a look at the first opponent of the tournament, the Chargers of Edison State Community College. Coming in as the No. 5 seed in the tournament and the third place team out of the OCCAC (Ohio Community College Athletic Conference), the Chargers check in with a 24-15 overall record and boast a .348 team batting average to go along with a .504 slugging percentage. Their team ERA is 4.43.
AROUND GREAT LAKES DISTRICT A
Here's a look at the other teams/seeds across NJCAA Division II Great Lakes District A. Lansing, the MCCAA West Champion, comes in as the top overall seed in the bracket, followed by OCCAC Champion and No. 2 seed Hocking. The No. 3 seed is Mid Michigan, while Macomb and Edison State make up the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, respectively. Jackson is the sixth and final seed in the six-team double-elimination tournament.
