WARREN, Mich. – Four Macomb teams and 30 student-athletes were honored by the NJCAA Thursday (July 18) as the association released its annual Academic Teams of the Year and All-Academic Team award recipients. The impressive numbers are the result of an incredible academic year for Macomb Community College Athletics.

To achieve NJCAA Academic Team status, a team must have a 3.0 or above GPA from the previous academic year (2023-24) and meet all other NJCAA qualifications. Of the teams who earned their way on the list, Baseball posted a 3.22 GPA and Men's Basketball followed with a 3.13 GPA—the best men's basketball GPA in Region 12. Softball made their annual appearance on the NJCAA's Academic Team of the Year list after recording a 3.06 GPA and Men's Cross Country rounded out Macomb's team recipients with a 3.04 GPA. Note: the NJCAA and MCCAA differ in requirements to earn academic team status so not all teams with a 3.0 or above GPA qualify. As for individual All-Academic Team recognition, student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.60 or higher while passing 24 or more credit hours (some NJCAA exemptions apply) for the 2023-24 academic year. The GPA requirements for the three All-Academic Teams are:

• NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
• NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
• NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA
