Macomb Athletics Welcomes Hunter Chovanec as Athletic Communications Assistant

With stops at NCAA Division I and Division II athletic communications departments, Chovanec brings a wealth of experience to Macomb.

WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Community College Athletics announced the appointment of Hunter Chovanec as its new Athletic Communications Assistant on Friday (Aug. 15). Bringing a wealth of experience in athletic communications across NCAA Division I, II, and NAIA levels, Chovanec will assist with all aspects of athletic communications at Macomb.

A 2021 graduate of Alma College with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Chovanec has amassed a stellar resume working with several respected athletic communications departments, including the University of Detroit Mercy (NCAA DI), Central Michigan University (NCAA DI), Saginaw Valley State University (NCAA DII) and Madonna University (NAIA). During those stops, he was responsible for content curation, event management, in-game statistics, record-keeping, website management, writing and more. Most recently, Chovanec served as Athletics Assistant at Mid Michigan College, where he directed sports information efforts for nine varsity programs.

"Hunter is a tremendous addition to the team who will help enhance our brand while also furthering our efforts of providing Macomb student-athletes with an engaging and immersive collegiate athletics experience," said Tim Johnston, Sports Information and Athletic Coordinator. "I look forward to working with him soon and am excited for what's ahead."

In addition to his roles within collegiate athletics, Chovanec has worked major sporting events, including the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, the NAIA Men's Basketball Tournament and the GLIAC Baseball Tournament.

Currently, Chovanec also serves as Trackman Operator for the Great Lakes Loons, a High-A minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and assists local institutions with football statistics.

A former student-athlete during his time at Alma, Chovanec ran cross country and track & field for the Scots and was named team captain as a senior.
