Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla. – No backing down! Despite beginning the season with a youthful and injured roster, Macomb Softball took a break from Space Coast Games play to take on the reigning NJCAA Division I National Champion and current No. 3 team in the land, the Pioneers of Indian River State Community College. The Monarchs were able to score first and lead 1-0 after the first inning of game one, but the hosts shut it down from there, winning the opener, 11-1, before taking game two, 14-0.
Raegan Hemelberg started the day strong with a leadoff triple and later scored when
Kailey Viviano made contact to the right side to push the run across for the RBI.
Alexa Yaklin had the lone other hit in the opener, a single to center in the third inning.
Madalyn Roberson returned to the circle in game one and held the potent Pioneers offense to two earned runs in nearly three innings of work.
The Monarchs return to the Space Coast Complex for two games on Thursday beginning with a 10 a.m. tilt against Williston State. A 12:15 p.m. contest against Bismarck State follows.
